For Take Your Daughter to Work Day, we wanted to spotlight one of the incredible moms behind NOM: Daniala, our Director of Sales and Operations.

Daniala helps keep the business running day to day, and she does it with a steadiness, competence, and grace that constantly impresses us. She is thoughtful, capable, endlessly reliable — and also, very importantly, a mom. At NOM, that matters.

THE MOMS BEHIND NOM

There is a real team of moms behind this brand, and that is a big part of what makes NOM what it is. We are a remote-first company built around supporting mothers, not just in what we create for our customers, but in how we work ourselves.

We live the working motherhood experience every day, and that perspective shapes everything we do.

REMOTE WORK AND REAL (MOM) LIFE IN PORTUGAL

Daniala works remotely from Portugal, where she and her husband are raising their two children, Gabriel and Gianna. Their desks sit side by side, and when life happens — as it always does with kids — they tag in and out, balancing meetings, pickups, sick days, and all the little moments in between.

That flexibility is one of the best parts of being a remote company. Sometimes Take Your Daughter to Work Day is not a special once-a-year event — it is just a regular workday when your daughter happens to be home sick and work carries on.

A REAL-LIFE WORKDAY MOMENT

That was the case when we spoke with Daniala. Gianna was home from school that day, in and out of the room, needing a little extra love while Daniala kept the day moving right along.

It was not polished or precious — it was simply real life. And watching her handle both with so much warmth and calm felt like the perfect reflection of what NOM is all about: real moms, doing real life, and building a brand that makes space for both.

Q&A WITH DANIALA

WHY IS WORKING REMOTELY FOR NOM SO MEANINGFUL TO YOU AS A PARENT?

Working remotely for NOM means so much to me because it lets me be present for my kids in a way that would be much harder in a traditional office job. I get to do school drop-off and pickup myself, and that is something I do not take for granted.

It feels especially meaningful because of the example I had growing up. My mom was a hardworking, ambitious single mother with no financial help, and she taught me everything about work ethic. But because she had to go into an office every day, my grandmother handled so much of the daily logistics, like pickups and drop-offs. My mom did what she had to do, and I have so much respect for that.

That is why remote work means so much to me now. I get to be both: a deeply committed working mom and the one who gets to show up for those everyday moments with my kids. If I had to commute into the city every day, that just would not be possible.

And because both my husband and I work from home, we get to sit down together for family dinner every night. Most nights, Gabriel helps me cook, and that feels especially meaningful to me because it is something I never had growing up.

HOW DOES FLEXIBILITY HELP WHEN REAL LIFE HAPPENS?

That flexibility is huge because with kids, something is always coming up. A sick day, a school call, a doctor’s appointment — real life does not wait until after work.

What I value most about working at NOM is the trust. We have built a rhythm where if Gabriel has a doctor’s appointment in the morning, I can just take him and get online later. I do not have to over-explain it or make a big thing out of stepping away for a few hours. There is an understanding that I am dependable, the work will get done, and we will figure it out.

That means a lot, especially because we are an e-commerce company and things are always moving. But the flexibility is there when it matters, and that gives me the ability to respond to my kids in real time without feeling like I am letting work slip.

It also gives my children a real sense of safety. They know that if they are sick or need me, I am home. I can be the one who takes them to the doctor, picks them up, and comforts them. That kind of presence feels incredibly meaningful to me — and it is only possible because of the trust and flexibility built into how we work.

WHAT IS THE FUNNIEST OR MOST UNEXPECTED PART ABOUT YOUR KIDS WATCHING YOU WORK?

The funniest part is how much they absorb. Gabriel has already figured out that when Mommy works, Mommy makes money — and money buys toys — so he is very into the whole concept. I explained it to him in the simplest possible way, and he was immediately sold.

Now when I tell him, “Have a good day at school,” he tells me, “Have a good day at work,” which is honestly so cute. He will also sit next to me with my notebook and highlighters and do his own little “work,” which makes me laugh every time.

It is such a sweet reminder that they are always watching. He may not know what sales and operations means yet, but he is seeing what it looks like to work hard, be consistent, and care about what you do.

A BIG THANK YOU TO DANIALA

Thank you, Daniala!

There is a real team of moms behind NOM, and that shapes everything we do. It also means our kids get to watch us work — to see what responsibility, creativity, and consistency look like up close.

We love the flexibility this season of life requires, but we also love what it gives back: kids who grow up seeing what it means to build something with care. Maybe that is the real spirit of Take Your Daughter to Work Day.
